Goal Statement
The goal of this activity is to improve learners’ competence in delivering optimal care to older people living with HIV by improving their knowledge of the medical and nonmedical challenges faced by older patients, and strategies to overcome such barriers.
Target Audience
This program is intended for physicians, pharmacists, registered nurses and other healthcare professionals who provide care for patients with HIV infection.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
- Integrate an understanding of nonmedical challenges faced by older people with HIV when devising HIV healthcare interventions for individuals and communities
- Apply best practices in co-managing HIV and the complications associated with aging, multimorbidity, and polypharmacy
- Implement approaches to minimize barriers to optimal care of HIV in older women and in older persons living in resource-constrained settings
